The
origins of the organization came from Washington DC. For
its first seven years WINI organized and coordinated cutting
edge programs and conferences that included:
•
Empowering women to negotiate for safer sex in Nigeria
and Ghana
• Supporting HIV/AIDS victims in South Africa and
the Caribbean
• Debt reduction programs in West Africa.
In 2002 WINI made a strategic decision to refocus much
of its energies to groups within the United States, as
well as maintaining some of the crucial aspects of its
international work.
